Hey there! The latest Kellie Stamps release is out and it is fabulous. The BOOK NERD set is perfect for my family. Three out of the four of us over here are crazy book lovers, and we're working on my little guy. We'll make a reader out of him yet :)
We give lots of book store gift cards as presents and I always find myself tucking bookmarks into our Christmas stockings as well. This gave me the idea to make bookmarks using the latest set.
I used several different stamps from the set and have ideas for lots more and am so excited about them! I made these here using Photoshop Elements 11 simply by opening up a new file and setting the size to 2 x 7 inches or if you like to work in pixels, that would be 600 px for the width and 2100 px for the height. But really, you can size them however you like. Once the new file is opened, open the digital stamps (.png files) and drag them onto the file and re-size and re-color them however suits your fancy.
For the Reading Is My Jam bookmark: I cropped away the outline and then sized a copy of that stamp very small and and went across the canvas, over and over again in a repeating pattern, making sure to line the stamp up as if the phrase was scrolling across the page.
On the twelfth line the phrase matched up to the first line I made, so next I copied those 12 lines (or layers) as if they were a pattern. I copied them (all twelve as one layer) about three more times until I got to the bottom of the bookmark.
And last, I used the stamp again and rotated it to the left and sized it across the bookmark on top of the pattern I had made. To get the last stamp to stand out and look bolder and thicker, I duplicated that layer several times until I got it to look as dark as I liked. I am self taught in PSE 11 and as such my skills are somewhat basic. I bet there are easier or better ways to do the same thing I did, so keep that in mind and please know that there are many different ways, technically, to achieve the same outcome, as in life, haha.
These bookmarks are on the larger size and I was able to print out five of them on one piece of heavy 8.5 x 11 matte photo paper. I had my daughter and her friends in mind when I made them but I foresee myself making smaller ones as well. The only thing left to do was to personalize a few of them.
And add some tassel love!
I made the tassels using very thin crochet yarn as well as embroidery yarn. The tassel can be found already made at craft stores as well if you don't want to make them.
So there you have it, adorable bookmarks made using the latest release of stamps. There is another new release in the Kellie Stamps shop called Summer of 2016 and I can't wait to get crafty with that one!
I hope you enjoyed this little DIY and please let me know if you make some of your own or leave a comment if you have any questions whatsoever. As always, thank you for reading.
