It's a new year. A time for new opportunities and chances. A time for new starts. I've never been really good at making new year resolutions. Oh sure I've made them but I've not been too successful at keeping them. Most resolutions I make at the new year are things that need changing or working on anyway, whether it is the start of a new year or not.
When we rang in 2014, that all changed for me. I discovered One Little Word (OLW)* and it transformed how I thought about resolutions. Instead of making resolutions to do something differently at the new year, why not invite a word into our life to help guide and encourage us throughout the entire year.
When I heard about this, I absolutely loved the idea. I thought about words, lots of words and chose the word NOURISH as my OLW in 2014. I wanted to nourish my family with more whole foods and make and grow more homemade. I also wanted to nourish myself on a creative and spiritual level. So I went about my year keeping this word in my mind and close to my heart.
This year I wasn't at all sure what my OLW would be. I had a difficult time coming to it. I couldn't easily find it nor did it just happen to find me. I did know that I wanted to be more present in my life, to live with more intention and to make the most of my time. There are so many good words out there, really good ones. I came up with many possibilities: Present, Be, Focus, Embrace, Intention and Start. These are all words, amazing words, that I need in my life, but not one of them was just right as my OLW. And then it came to me (compliments of Google):
This one word pretty much sums up what I want to work on this year; living with intention and purpose. I absolutely LOVE this word and as a noun and a verb it is perfect. So there it is, I've put it out there in the universe and am now committed to embracing this word and letting it be present in my life. I'll be working on some creative prompts through out the year to help keep my OLW visible as well as explore all the ways it expresses itself in my everyday and I'll be sharing here. I'm excited to welcome the new year and all it has to offer.
*Ali Edwards began the OLW concept and hosts a year long workshop that provides monthly videos, prompts and guidance. It it fabulous and you can learn more about it on her website. While I won't be taking the workshop this year, I'll re-work some of the prompts from last year and post here on the blog when appropriate :)
So now it's your turn. If you were to pick just one little word to help guide you this year, what would it be? I hope you'll share your thoughts and leave me a comment. I'd love to hear!
